Significance: The central block of the hosue is an excellent example of early "Piedmont" architecture. All indications are that the basement room (under the central block) was used once, maybe twice, as a tavern in the history of house; and this is still in fine condition-- heavy beams and great, arched fireplace. The west wing, built perhaps in the 1820s, is in itself exceptionally attractive. All of the early owners of the house have been significant figures in local history-- William Reed, Barnaby Cabe, Willam Courtney, Thomas D. Watts. etc
