Significance: Building A44 is a contributing element of the Mare Island Historic District. It is important as an element of a small cluster of historic homes, built on the bluff overlooking the Ammunition Depot at Mare Island. Built in 1874, Building A44 was the first watchman's house to be built in the area. Architecturally, it is an important example of vernacular design from the late 19th century.
