Significance: Building A42 is a contributing element of the Mare Island Historic District. Building A42 is important to Mare Island in two respects: as an example of the long-standing tradition of the Navy in building homes for prized civilian employees who were needed on a 24-hour basis; and as an important element of the historic building stock in the Ammunition Depot area of the station. It is also an interesting example of the 19th and early 20th century vernacular design tradition for civilian homes throughout the shipyard.
