Significance: Part of naval complex. / Building 47 is a contributing element of the Mare Island Historic District. It is highly significant historically as well as architecturally. Historically, the building served as the headquarters for the Mare Island Naval Shipyard for more than 120 years. Architecturally, it is one of the few remaining non-industrial brick buildings at the island and illustrative of the original architectural program for the residential-administrative area. Although it has been modified substantially, the building retains enough of its original detailing to convey its prominent and important place within the historic building stock of the Mare Island Historic District.
