Significance: In 1933, this large two-story building was constructed along the waterfront in the Naval Ammunition Depot as a bag charge and filling house. The first floor was divided into three sections (a priming room, a stacking room, and a tanking room) divided by concrete firewalls. The second floor was used for the filling of charge bags with smokeless powder. Also fixed and semi-fixed ammunition cartridges were broken down and renovated. Building A159 is a contributing element of the Mare Island Historic District having excellent historical integrity with approximately 95% of the original building existing.
