Building/structure dates: 1782 initial construction
Building/structure dates: 1946 subsequent work
Significance: The original Narisco Caneda house, which now forms a part of the adobe house of Elmer H. Whittaker was one of the contiguous buildings which formed the north side of the Santa Barbara Presidio. The Caneda house and El Cuartel are the two important fragments still remaining of the original Presidio.
