Significance: The Cecil H. Green Library, originally known as the Stanford University Library, is a significant example of early twentieth-century collegiate architecture. Designed in a derivation of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the library is a fine and rare example of masonry architecture in California. As the west terminus of the primary east-west axis through the central campus, Green Library is a key element in the composition of the Old Quadrangle. From its completion in 1919 to the present day, the building served as all or part of the main campus library.
