Significance: The Engine Garage (Building No. 2304) is one of a series of four buildings in the Descanso Station complex that was determined eligible for nomination to the National Register (Newland 1995). These four buildings are located in a cluster and despite some interior, exterior, and functional changes, they represent one of the best examples of a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)/Depression Era complex within the Cleveland National Forest. The remaining original features of the Garage include the horizontal wooden-lapped siding on three elevations and the wooden six-pane casement windows on the south side and the original six-pane double hung sash windows on the east and west ends of the building. This building also contributes to the complex described by Newland (1995) as unique on Forest land. "Factors such as a building being the last of its kind on the Forest (No. 2010 A-4) or having special architectural features (windows on #2304) add to their integrity. As such these buildings may be eligible as part of a discontiguous district of other CCC/Depression Era structures on the Cleveland National Forest. They, along with the potentially restorable Warehouse No. 2305, form an adjacent group of five CCC/Depression Era structures found nowhere else on the Forest" (Newland 1995).
