Significance: "Preservation Hill is a ten acre tract on the east side of Western Run Road. ... Since 1956 Leonard C. Crewe, Jr. and his architect, Bryden B. Hyde, AIA, of Baltimore, have moved two colonial houses to this site, the Ross House and Yates Place. ... Dr. Ross served in the Continental Army and was thought to have been one of George Washington's personal physicians. When Washington became President, he named Dr. Ross auditor for the new Federal City. During the Battle of Bladensburg in the War of 1812, this house served as a hospital for British soldiers. ... The house was known for many years as The Old Brick Hospital. In 1957 the land was sold for a commercial development and the structure was dismantled and all its bricks, planking and handmade nails were stored by a local builder who hoped to reassemble it. ... Mr. Hyde persuaded Mr. Crewe to purchase the building and reconstruct it in Baltimore County. This was accomplished over a period of three years with the aid of J. Hurst Pernell, builder."
