Significance: The barn on the Jones Plantation at Bethania, was built in 1840 as a shelter for livestock and hay. It was constructed of heavy timber, hand hewn by the slaves of the plantation. The barn was so well planned and solidly constructed, that throughout its 115 years of active service, no major changes have been necessary. In 1958, the barn was donated to the Old Salem Restoration Program and early in 1961 is was dismantled and reconstructed in Old Salem where it now stands as an example of early utilitarian construction in North Carolina.
