Building/structure dates: 1847 initial construction
Significance: The 1 story frame cottage, built ca. 1847, is the oldest extant structure in Albemarle, which was established in 1842 as the County seat of the newly formed Stanly County. The house has had a variety of residents and owners, beginning with A.S. Freeman, son of the of the owner Daniel Freeman, and his family. The house was bought by its most famous resident, lawyer Samuel Pemberton, in 1871 for use as his home and law office...
