Our first goal when designing the new 3D Rare Book Library was to try to recreate as closely as possible the tactile experience of actually having a bound volume in front of a user. While there are many ways to represent the images we made from these beautiful books, we decided to render the books within the best page-flip software available today - Megazine3 by VservU GmbH's of Munich, Germany.
From a developers point of view, implementing Megazine3 within our pre-existing website was a breeze and very easy to customize. The results speak for themselves, with Megazine3 we are able to offer our users a fast and efficient way to view rare maps in a manner which recreates turning the pages of an actual book, while at the same time presenting the option of a full-screen, pan and zoomable window.
