Significance: Originally the headquarters of an early Wyoming homestead (Thomas Maxwell), this group of structures became the seat of activity for the Swan Land and Cattle Company soon after its incorporation in 1884. The immense enterprise was the child of Alexander Hamilton Swan, pioneer and innovator in the breeding and raising of cattle, and was among the largest, most impressive and most important operations of that brilliant but short lived period of western capitalism, the American range cattle industry.
