Significance: Originally built in 1900 as a two story brick structure. Later, the building at 111 Second Street was expanded into its present five story condition. The fifth floor has a Mansard in front. Used as the Monongahela House Hotel in the early 1900s, it became as important stopover point for immigrants headed south and west. Frank Keller, who helped to design the Los Angeles City Hall, designed the upper three story addition with dormers for this structure.
