Significance: ... The Old Croton Aqueduct was deemed a superlative example of American civi engineering practice in the first half of the nineteenth century. Near each waste weir along the Aqueduct, the corporation of the City of New York provided a residence for the weir keeper, which was also occupied by an overseer. charged with inspecting and maintaining the portion of the line immediately above and below the waste weir. ...
