Unprocessed field note material exists for this structure (FN-580).
Significance: It was constructed in 1828, upon the separation of the Hicksite and Orthodox Quakers, on land donated to the new Hicksite Meeting by Joseph W. Cooper. Originally, the frame building measured 28'2" x 32'0" and possibly contained an upper room, or attic which was used for "women's business meetings, and so on..." In 1885, several alterations were made to the building. These changes, which have been attributed to Philadelphia architect Wilson Eyre, included extending the east side of the building 14', to provide additional seating; the addition of a library to the north side and an entrance vestibule to the west side; and the removal of the attic room...
