Significance: The Doc Taylor Place is an example of homesteading patterns in southeastern Montana during the early twentieth century. The ranch's log cabin also shows a rare example of the use of scarfing, a technique where short logs were joined together by a slanted, interlocking joint. The technique was an efficient way to utilize timber resources in an area where large trees were scarce. Its actual use, however, was infrequent.
