Significance: There is no documentary or pictorial evidence concerning the age or origins of the Water Tank. A description of the Joyce Estate, published in 1922, noted that the sleeping cottages in the Main Cabin Compound had "water systems, compressed air besides tank system." It is doubtful, however, that the present Water Tank dates from this early period, since its welded metal construction is more typical of the post-World-War-II period. Occupying high ground to the northwest of the Main Cabin Compound, the Water Tank used a gravity system with underground pipes to supply water to the cottages in that area. ... The Water Tank is an industrial, welded, metal cylinder.
