Significance: Members of the University of Michigan chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity formed the Omicron Literary Association in 1872 to finance and build a meeting house near the university campus in Ann Arbor. The chapter commission William LeBaron Jenney, a renowned Chicago architect then teaching at Michigan, to design the structure. Construction began in 1878 and the building was completed in 1879.
