Significance: The Captain David Stearns House is an example of Richmond, Maine's distinctive and varied wooden Greek Revival temple style homes. Many of these, including the Stearns House, were built for sea captains and shipbuilders during the town's flourishing two decades before the Civil War. The Stearns House is of special architectural interest because of its carved lotus leaf capitals, which reflect the influence of the Egyptian Revival.
