Notes
Survey number HAER MA-45
Building/structure dates: 1892 initial construction
Significance: This single story brick pumping station has round-arch openings, terra-cotta ornament, a slate roof with terra-cotta tiles, and a slated square ventilator cupola. The doorway ornament features terra-cotta fluted pilasters rising to peaks above the roof line; these pilasters are similar to those of the earlier 1888 plant at Canton. The Pumping Station is still in use, but the only remaining sign of the original equipment is a three gauge plaque reading (Knowles Steam Pump Works, Boston & NY, 1892."
