Significance: The Stephen J. Barbre School, built in 1924 as the first Kenner High School, is an architecturally sophisticated example of the Neo-Classical architectural style applied to an educational building program. The original design of the building illustrates man of the standardized features common to school designs of the period. The plan incorporates separate assembly, instruction, and recreation spaces, while the overall design emphasizes natural light and ventilation.
