Survey number HAER IN-89
Significance: It is an open-spandrel arch type of construction. It is the oldest and one of the longest in Indiana. This type of construction was very expensive and of the couple of dozen built in Indiana, only a dozen remain today of those built before 1930.

23. DETAIL PHOTO OF A TYPICAL PIER BELT COURSE AT THE SPRING LINE OF ONE OF THE ARCHES. IT IS BEVELLED AND SUPPORTED BY A SIMPLE CAVETTO MOLDING. THE PILE OF AGGREGATE ON THE COPING HAS FALLEN FROM THE ERODING ARRISES ABOVE.
24. A SECTION OF OPEN BALUSTRADE AND AN INTERMEDIATE PEDESTAL (CENTERED ON A PYLON) OVER THE CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE BRIDGE. THE WALKS ARE CONCRETE, WITH AN INTEGRAL CURB. THE ROADWAY IS ASPHALT.
25. A QUIRK ON THE FACING OF THE NORTHEASTERN ABUTMENT. IT HAS BEEN CAST IN PLACE, THE GHOSTS OF THE WOODEN FORMERS CAN BE SEEN. EVEN THE MITRES WITHIN THE SUNK PORTIONS OF THE CASTING ARE VISIBLE. POISON IVY AND TRUMPET VINE CLING WELL TO THE ROUGH CONCRETE.
26. A PHOTOGRAPH OF ONE OF THE TWO BRONZE, LOW-RELIEF COMMEMORATIVE PLACQUES WHICH ARE MOUNTED ON PEDESTALS AT THE NORTHEAST AND SOUTHWEST ENDS OF THE BRIDGE. NOTE THE PRONOUNCED PEBBLE-DASH FINISH ON THE CONCRETE WHICH WAS CREATED, IN PART, BY WASHING THE DAMP CASTINGS.
