Significance: R. Harold Zook was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, in 1889, and he received his BS in architecture in 1914, from the Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago. Initially Zook worked with Harold Van Dornshaw in Chicago but during the depression moved his work to Hinsdale where he designed thirty-four superbly-crafted homes and buildings. Zook homes are known for their distinctive artistic features and for the natural materials used in their construction. In this Tudor home he incorporated the well-known spiderweb design, scalloped wood trim, patio slate and intricate brick pattern. Zook died in 1949, and unfortunately few of his beautiful architectural renderings have survived. He was an artist whose unique creations remain treasures.
