Notes
Survey number HABS IL-1079
Building/structure dates: 1910 initial construction
Significance: This is one of the more distinguished of many similar buildings designed by Dwight H. Perkins during his association with the Chicago Board of Education in the first decade of the 20th century. The Cleveland School displays the architect's characteristic preference for large areas of patterned brickwork set in massive cubic compositions with generous provisions made for natural lighting of the interior. Working within the architectural traditions of the Prairie School, Perkins created an original and functional form for this particular building type.
