Significance: The James H. and Loraine B. Ford Double House possesses architectural significance on the local level by calling attention to the double house -- a new and little studied architectural form, which emerged in Des Moines during the Victorian era. The James H. and Loraine B. Ford Double House also likely possesses local historical significance within the context of politics and government. As the residence of James H. Ford, chief of police of the City of Des Moines, the building calls attention to his administration in this office. Before that determination can be made, however, further research is necessary to document other dwelling occupied by Ford.
