Significance: Battery Boyd is significant as one of the earliest defensive facilities on the base, completed in 1917 by the Army to protect both the Naval installation at Pearl Harbor and the rear of the harbor defense batteries at Fort Kamehameha. It is also significant as a distinctive type of construction, comparable only to Battery Adair on the north end of Ford Island. Its design is related to a very specific period of land defense battery construction in the first decades of the century.
