Significance: Drydock No. 4 is a 1,089 feet long, 59 feet deep, stationary gravity-type dry dock. Constructed of wood pile foundation with reinforced concrete walls, it is the largest of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard's dry docks, capable of drydocking CVN Class ships. The architectural design is strictly utilitarian. In 1964, the Secretary of the Interior declared the United States Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, a National Historic Landmark. Following the establishment of the National Register of Historic Places in 1966, the Pearl Harbor National Historic Landmark was included within this listing of America's historic sites. Drydock No. 4 is designated a Historic Category 3 structure in the Historic Preservation Plan. Category 3 structures are of minor importance to the historic character of Pearl Harbor National Historic Landmark.
