Significance: The Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1964, due to the crucial role it played in the Nation's defense during the twentieth century and the catastrophic events that occurred on December 7, 1941. Facility No. 77, as the administrative center of the Naval Air Station on Ford Island and of several later commands, is a significant building on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base. The building was designed by Charles W. Dickey, a noted Hawaii architect. It contributes to the historic character of the National Historic Landmark, despite the extensive renovations and additions that have been made to it.
