Significance: 523 Eleventh Street, constructed in 1890 as a store and apartments, provides an excellent example of Eastlake-inspired decorative brickwork. Designed by Pitney & Bradford as one of a pair of buildings, the facade incorporates a wealth of brick detailing including brick corbels, diaper work, and molded brick columns. The building contributes to the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site.
