Significance: 1011 E Street, NW, is an extensively altered rowhouse whose simple form and pattern of use is typical of mid-19th century buildings in this part of downtown. Along with 1013 E Street, NW (HABS DC-792), 1011 E Street was originally one of a pair of identical buildings. John Walter, a German cabinet maker who owned several properties on Square 347, constructed 1011 E Street after 1860.
