Notes
Survey number HABS DC-790
Unprocessed field note material exists for this structure (N666).
Building/structure dates: 1895 initial construction
Building/structure dates: 1970 subsequent work
Significance: Constructed in 1895 by builder H. Mueller at a cost of $5500 (D.C. Building Permit No. 8, July 2, 1895), 1007 E Street is an excellent example of builder-designed architecture in Washington in the late 19th century. Although the building does not represent a particular style, the quality of its craftsmanship and materials distinguishes its front facade. The rich texture created by the contrast of stone and brick as well as the brick corbelled cornice are typical of German-designed architecture in Washington in the late 19th century. Constructed as a store of the Streitberger family through 1919. 1007 E Street contributes to the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site.
