Significance: A small log cabin of the initial 1880's boom, illustrating the "Anglo-Western" type of plan, i.e., entrance set in gable end. The barn is one of few surviving stable buildings in St. Elmo. The orientation of this early cabin to the street as staked out shows adherence to the town plat during the initial period of growth and prosperity. Departure from the plat, as with shifting of Pitkin Street to the east, shows increasing laxity in following the town plan during the period of long decline after c.1890.
