Notes
Survey number HABS CA-1938
Unprocessed field note material exists for this structure (FN-208).
Building/structure dates: 1917 initial construction
Significance: Intended as a major arts and cultural center, Barnsdall Park was never completed as planned by its donor - Aline Barnsdall, or by its architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. What was built, and what remains, however, do give a good idea of the original intent. / Barnsdall Park is the former estate of Aline Barnsdall for which an extensive complex was projected by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1917. It was intended to include many structures in a hillside park, with the "Hollyhock" house as its climax. The complex is noted for the extensive proposal made as a cultural and arts center, a function it still maintains under the auspices of the City of Los Angeles. The lamp posts and garden buildings were by R.M Schindler.
